Publication Ethics and Misconduct

Optical and Magnetic Materials Letters (OMML) is a peer-reviewed journal committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, the Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Board members, reviewers, and the publisher. This policy is based on the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.


Guidelines for Journal Publication Ethics

Publications in OMML represent essential contributions to the advancement of knowledge in optical, photonic, and magnetic materials. Peer-reviewed articles reflect the scientific method and the quality of research conducted by authors and their institutions. All parties involved in the publication process are expected to maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct.

The publisher of OMML is committed to ensuring that editorial decisions are independent and not influenced by commercial interests such as advertising or sponsorship.


Alleged Research Misconduct

Research misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Data fabrication or falsification
  • Plagiarism
  • Citation manipulation
  • Unethical research or review practices

When misconduct is suspected or identified, the Editor will follow COPE guidelines to investigate the issue thoroughly and fairly. Appropriate actions may include:

  • Rejection of the manuscript
  • Publication of corrections (erratum/corrigendum)
  • Retraction of published articles

Publication Decisions

The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Editorial Board and in accordance with legal requirements (such as copyright, defamation, and plagiarism), is responsible for making the final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of submitted manuscripts.


Complaints and Appeals

OMML provides a transparent procedure for handling complaints and appeals related to editorial decisions, peer review, or ethical concerns. All complaints will be processed in accordance with COPE best practices.


Post-Publication Discussion

OMML encourages constructive academic discussion after publication. Readers may engage through correspondence, letters to the editor, or other appropriate academic forums.


Fair Play

Manuscripts are evaluated solely on their intellectual merit, without regard to the authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, or political beliefs.


Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and must not disclose any information except to those directly involved in the publication process.


Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Editors, reviewers, and authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest. Unpublished materials from submitted manuscripts must not be used in personal research without explicit written consent from the authors.

Duties of Reviewers

Duties of Authors

  • Originality and Plagiarism: Ensure originality and proper citation
  • Multiple Submissions: Avoid simultaneous submissions to other journals
  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Properly cite all sources
  • Authorship: Include only contributors who made significant contributions
  • Conflicts of Interest: Disclose all relevant conflicts
  • Errors in Published Work: Promptly notify the journal of significant errors
  • Ethical Compliance: Ensure compliance with ethical standards for research involving humans, animals, or hazardous materials
